Midway Fire District #20
Note: All information has been supplied by this fire department.
Some residents that were concerned about fire protection formed the Midway Volunteer Fire Department in 1963. The fire department protects 26 square miles in the south end of Santa Rosa County.
As the area grew the department could no longer afford to operate on a donation basis only, so in 1983 the community went to the Florida Legislature to form an Independent Fire Control District called the Midway Fire Protection District. The district in now operated on advalorem tax.
This enabled us to keep up with the growth as years went by. Over the years, the district continued to grow at a rapid pace. With growth there is more responsibility and more emergency calls. This caused the department to transition to a combination fire department at the beginning of 1998.
The district has continued to transition into a fully career fire department as of August 2002 in order for us to keep up with growth and to provide the best customer service possible.
