PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING
Wednesday, September 28, 2011, 5:30 p.m.
Administrative Complex Board Meeting Room
 

The September meeting of the Santa Rosa County Parks and Recreation Committee was held at the Administrative Complex beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2011. The following members were present representing the sports associations and host organizations: Larry Dixon, Navarre Youth Sports Association, Navarre Sports Complex/Navarre Football-Soccer Park/Holley Ball Field; Ron Kennedy, Santa Rosa Sportsplex/PARA; Tom Dorsey, Tiger Point Recreational Park, Robert Foster, Chumuckla Park; and Robert Breland, Santa Rosa Soccer/Horse Park

Absent were representatives from East Milton Recreational Park, Fidelis Community Center and Park, Benny Russell Park, and Swenson Park.

Also present was the Administrative Services/Parks Operations Manager, Tammy Simmons.

The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m.

The Administrative Services Manager welcomed all.

Minutes from the March 23, 2011 and August 24, 2011 meetings were approved without objection as written.

The purpose of the meeting was to hear appeals from volunteers concerning background screening.

• Adam Aldaco Martinez, NYSA, stated his case, Kennedy moved approval to accept Mr. Martinez as a volunteer, Dorsey seconded the motion, motion approved without objection for Martinez to volunteer.

• Michael Todd Walker, PARA, stated his case, Dixon moved approval to accept Mr. Walker as a volunteer, Kennedy seconded the motion, motion approved without objection for Walker to volunteer.

Committee approved, March 23, 2011, advocating a change in the language of the current management agreements with the County for County Commission approval that would prohibit organized teams from playing on fields without prior approval from the sports associations and make a recommendation to the Board of Commissioners, Simmons’ she had emailed all members this portion of the lease and a suggestion from Darrin Nicely dated May 11, 2011, previously and she would send out to the members again for their review and all responses should be sent back to Simmons’ only.

Stacy McHugh was in attendance asked questions about the tennis complex in Pace. Simmons’ responded that is a project that the District 1 Commissioner is working on.

Simmons stated the next regular scheduled meeting will be October 26, 2011.
