JUNE 10, 2004
The regular meeting of the Santa Rosa County Fire Protection Board of Appeals was held June 10, 2004 at 4:00 p. m. in the Conference Room of the Santa Rosa County Building Inspection Department located at 6051 Old Bagdad Highway Room 202, Milton, Florida. Board members in attendance were Chairman John Reble, Vice Chairman Paul Hazucha, Dusty Rhodes and Steve Rowell.
Building Inspection Department Staff in attendance were Rhonda Royals, Building Department Coordinator; Tambre Lee, Fire Safety Inspector; and Esna Cluck, Permit Analyst.
Mr. John Reble, Chairman, called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m.
Reble asked if there were any additional items. There were none. Hazucha made a motion to accept the agenda as amended with a second from Rhodes. Motion carried with 4 ayes.
Approval of minutes:
Rhodes made a motion to accept the minutes from the March 11, 2004, meeting with a second by Rowell. Motion carried with 4 ayes.
The next scheduled meeting is to be held on Thursday, July 22, 2004, at 4:00 p.m.
Berrydale Baptist Church – Fire hydrant requirement variance appeal
Reble read the application for appeal into the record. Reble also reviewed the water calculations prepared by Lee. Roger Williams of Williams Engineering and Consulting spoke to the Board. Williams stated that there is a hydrant approximately 650 feet away from the most remote corner of the building and that the fire department is right next door to the church.
Rowell verified that the fire department is next door and that several of the members of the church are volunteer firemen for that department. Discussion ensued.
Rhodes stated that if a fire starts with people in the building that he has a problem with the situation.
Rowell made a motion to grant the variance request with a second by Hazucha. Motion carried with 3 ayes and 1 nay.
Reble said he would like to know how may hydrant variance request had been made since the Santa Rosa County Ordinance 2002-2 had been established, how many approved, denied and overturned by the Board of County Commissioners. Discussion ensued.
Hazucha made a motion that Santa Rosa County staff will notify the appropriate fire department on all fire hydrant variance requests and ask them to respond with their input. There was a second by Rhodes. Motion carried with 4 ayes.
At 4:25 p. m. Rhodes made a motion to adjourn the meeting with a second by Hazucha. Motion carried with 4 ayes.
