PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING

Administrative Complex Board Meeting Room
The February meeting of the Santa Rosa County Parks and Recreation Committee was held at the Administrative Complex beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2013. The following members were present representing the sports associations and host organizations: Larry Dixon, Navarre Youth Sports Association, Navarre Sports Complex/Navarre Football-Soccer Park/Holley Ball Field; Scot Thomas, Santa Rosa Sportsplex/PARA; and Justin Labrato, Tiger Point Recreational Park.
Absent were representatives from Fidelis Community Center and Park, Chumuckla Community Center and Park, Santa Rosa Soccer/Horse Park, East Milton Recreational Park, Pace Area Tennis Association and Swenson Park.
Also present was the Administrative Services/Parks Operations Manager, Tammy Simmons.
The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m.
Minutes from the July 25, 2012 meeting was approved without objection as written.
The committee heard appeals from the following volunteers concerning his/her background screening.
· Sean Patrick Conner, Tiger Point, stated his case. Dixon moved approval to accept Mr. Conner as a volunteer, Thomas seconded the motion, motion approved without objection for Conner to volunteer.
Keith DeSa, Outreach Coordinator, with Sacred Heart Sports Care provided literature and explained the services they provide to the committee. Services provided to partners are injury prevention education, treatment and rehabilitation, on-site event medical coverage, and comprehensive care. Thomas stated that PARA is in the process of scheduling an education program at the Pace Community Center for pitching coaches on “Rotator Cuff Injuries” in approximately 5-6 weeks. Thomas extended an invitation to the other county parks to attend this educational program. Details will be provided to all county park presidents once program has been scheduled.
The next regular scheduled meeting is March 27, 2013.
