Administrative Complex Board Meeting Room

The April meeting of the Santa Rosa County Parks and Recreation Committee was held at the Administrative Complex beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2007. The following members were present representing the sports associations and host organizations: Larry Dixon, Navarre Youth Sports Association, Navarre Sports Complex/Navarre Football-Soccer Park/Holley Ball Field; Tom Dorsey, Tiger Point Recreational Park; Connie Clark, East Milton Recreational Park; Robert Breland and Robert Saville, Futbol Club of Santa Rosa, Inc; and Phillip Enfinger, Fidelis Community Center and Park.

Absent were representatives from Pace Athletic and Recreation Association, Chumuckla Community Center and Park, Benny Russell Park, and Swenson Park.

Also present were the Administrative Services/Parks Operations Manager, Tammy Simmons, and County Administrator, Hunter Walker.

The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m.

The Administrative Services Manager welcomed all.

Minutes from the December 6, 2006 meeting were approved as written.

Larry Dixon discussed his concern with putting children's names on the back of uniforms. His concern was that an individual/stranger could communicate with a child utilizing their name. Currently NYSA allows each team to decide rather the name is on the uniform or not. Clark stated that EMYA allows the same. After a brief discussion, committee decided to allow current rules of each park to remain the same.

Dorsey requested a link on their site to directly access the sexual predator information. Simmons stated she would check with the Computer Department Supervisor and respond with the answer to each park.

Dixon discussed the problems that they were experiencing with skate boards. Committee discussed that eventually someone was going to have to address the needs of the skate boards.

Walker briefly discussed the current status with tax reform.

Enfinger stated that Fidelis sports program has outgrown their current location and are in need of additional property.

Simmons announced that the next scheduled meeting is May 23, 2007, at 5:30 p.m. and that if no items come up before this time, the members will be notified if cancelled.

The meeting adjourned at 6:25 p.m.
