Administrative Complex Board Meeting Room
The July meeting of the Santa Rosa County Parks and Recreation Committee was held at the Administrative Complex beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2007. The following members were present representing the sports associations and host organizations: Larry Dixon, Navarre Youth Sports Association, Navarre Sports Complex/Navarre Football-Soccer Park/Holley Ball Field; Dan Melvin and Charles Hoard, East Milton Recreational Park; and Charles Baxley, Pace Athletic and Recreation Association, Santa Rosa
Sportsplex, PARA Park.
Absent were representatives fromFidelis Community Center and Park, Futbol Club of Santa Rosa, Inc, Tiger Point Recreational Park, Chumuckla Community Center and Park, Benny Russell Park, and Swenson Park.
Also present were the Administrative Services/Parks Operations Manager, Tammy Simmons, County Administrator, Hunter Walker, and Rene’ Grifol with the United States Tennis Association.
The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m.
The Administrative Services Manager welcomed all.
Minutes from the April 25, 2007 meeting were approved as written.
Grifol presented a short video titled “Rallyball After-School Program” which can be viewed at:
http://www.usatennisflorida.usta.com/aboutus/custom.sps?iType=1113&icustompageid=19188. He provided a brochure explaining resources, training, and support
to organizations to help program tennis.
Simmons and Walker discussed the proposed 07/08 budget and staff recommendation to turn all electrical bills over to the sports associations.Walker explained the proposal is to cut the Parks budget by $125,000 and two vacant park positions would not be filled. Simmons provided handouts with these expenses for a one year period. Baxley stated that this would be a problem to turn the utility bill over to them in October as their budget year starts in January and they had not budgeted for these expenses in the 2007 budget. Dixon expressed concern with the gym utility bill; however, he stated they would work it out. Melvin expressed concern if the East Milton Youth Association could afford the utility bills and stated his concern with the October date.Walker informed the associations of the public hearing dates and suggested they discuss their concerns at the public hearings.
Simmons announced that the next scheduled meeting is August 22, 2007, at 5:30 p.m. and that if no items come up before this time, the members will be notified if cancelled.
