Burial Benefits

The Department of Veterans Affairs offers several different burial benefits for all veterans who DID NOT RECEIVE A DISHONORABLE or UNDER DISHONORABLE CONDITIONS discharge.

At the bottom of this page is a link to make an appointment with one of our Veterans Services officers to apply for these benefits. Before you make an appointment here is what you will need to bring with you:

  • DD 214 (all of them or Discharge Certificate) showing veteran’s service

Copies of DD 214 and STRs/SMRs can be requested online here:  https://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records

You can also request your DD 214 and STRs/SMRs by using the attached SF-180

  • Copy of marriage license or certificate for you and your late spouse (If you have it). We need dates, cities, states (Country name if outside the US) of all previous marriages, divorces, and deaths for YOUR and the VETERAN’S former (or late) spouses.
  • Death certificate long form
  • Statement of account from funeral home showing:
    • The name of the deceased veteran
    • The nature of cost of the services and merchandise
    • Balance of $0.00 or “paid in full”
    • Expenses for transportation of the veteran’s remains
