[ARCHIVED] Join UF/IFAS Extension for Let's Walk, Florida! Program

Let's Walk, Florida!

Join Santa Rosa County UF/IFAS Extension for Let’s Walk, Florida!, a statewide, healthy lifestyle education program and physical activity challenge! During this virtual 10-week program, participants will receive weekly eGuides and engage in weekly eConnections with a local health educator and other county residents, while tracking and reporting physical activity. This virtual community provides the education, support and accountability needed to improve health. Locally, the Santa Rosa County UF/IFAS Extension Office will be offering interpretive walks on the beach, nature trails, a local strawberry farm and the demonstration garden.

Let's Walk, Florida! is open to individuals, families and organized teams. Registration is $15. To find more information or register for this program, visit www.tiny.one/walkfl. In addition to walking, this program promotes all physical activity and encourages participants to track and report any moderate intensity cardiovascular exercise. Top performers will compete for gift cards and prizes at the county or state level. All participants will receive a certificate and medal upon completion. For more information on local Let's Walk, Florida! activities, contact Ginny Hinton at 850-623-3868.

When coupled with healthy eating, meeting physical activity recommendations by age and activity level promotes mental and physical wellness, weight management and chronic disease prevention and management. The goal of Let's Walk, Florida! is building a community to encourage lifetime habits of healthy eating and active lifestyles.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends adults get at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic activity each week. Walking offers an accessible form of physical activity, that does not require a gym membership or special equipment. It has a vast number of health benefits and can be done at the participant's leisure.
